"Impression" I bought ICAN AERO 40 wheels on the ICAN website
We received a comment from Jim, who purchased aero 40 wheels on the ICAN website. Please see below for details; we hope it will be helpful.
Anyone who rides a road bike knows that upgrading your wheels significantly improves the ride. That's why wheels are the most popular item people buy. Currently, there are many carbon wheels to choose from, and among them, many online Chinese-made carbon wheels are available at incredibly low prices.
When I received an email from a company called ICAN about their new ultralight Aero 40 wheelset, they not only stated that this product was a high-quality, UCI-certified wheelset, but they were also selling it for only $640. The wheelset weighs just over 1300 grams. So, when they offered to send me a set, I accepted.
Today, I'm going to unbox that set and give you a preview of what you'll receive. The wheels come in a very small box. I've never seen two wheels packed in such a small box before. I hope they're packed properly; let's take a look!
These wheels arrived from China in about a week. They also have a warehouse in California. ICAN has warehouses in places like the US, UK, Belgium, Japan, and Australia. When I opened the box, I could see that there were indeed two wheels inside. It also contained carbon rim-compatible brake pads, two quick-release skewers, and rim strips. The packaging was secure, with reinforced cardboard separating the wheels to prevent them from bumping into each other. There was also cardboard at the bottom of the box, a warranty card, and the rear wheel was properly protected. It was a solid foam bag. Beautiful carbon!
These wheels are made from a combination of Toray T700 and 800 carbon fiber. They come with a 3K twill brake track, designed to dissipate heat and are noticeably very lightweight. By feel, they weigh 1314 grams, but they feel as light as a feather in your hands. The rim is 25mm wide at the brake track and 27mm at its widest point, featuring an aero rim. The center is 18.35mm, making it a good rim for modern tires ranging from 25-40mm wide. These wheels also use ICAN's proprietary RO1 hubs. Interestingly, the direct-pull spokes are radial on the front and 2-cross on the rear.
Next, I'll weigh them. I have a scale, so let's put them on. The rear wheel is said to weigh 746 grams, but will it balance? The actual weight is 742 grams. What was that? 746 grams, so it's lighter. The front wheel is said to weigh 568 grams, but it's 566 grams. The front wheel is also actually lighter. The actual weight was even less; they feel almost weightless in my hands.
I'm excited to try these wheels. I'll set up the tires, ride a few miles, and see how they feel. If I get the chance, I'll also check the spoke tension. With this lightness, it should be a dream ride. I'm really looking forward to riding them!
