[Chinese Brand, 7.1kg Class] Is the ICAN Flyee truly a "contender-ready road bike"?

by nicole hu 15 May 2026 0 Comments

Thank you for visiting the ICAN official blog.

In recent years, Chinese brands like BYD and Omoda have rapidly increased their presence in the automotive industry.
And now, the same change is definitely starting to happen in the road bike industry.

"Can Chinese-made carbon road bikes really be trusted?"
"How do they actually compare to famous brands?"
"Are they just cheaper?"

Many cyclists still have these questions.

This time, we'd like to introduce a very interesting review article by a Hungarian cycling media outlet.

The theme is,

"How competitive will Chinese-made road bikes be in 2026?"

The testers assembled a "serious" lightweight road bike from scratch, composed entirely of Chinese brands, and thoroughly verified its capabilities.

And at the heart of that project was the
TRIAERO Flyee.

First, please take a look at the actual review content.

In this article, from ICAN management's perspective, we will organize the points discussed in this review and introduce in detail the design philosophy of the Flyee frame and the current state of Chinese carbon road bikes.

The Image of "Chinese Road Bikes"

Ten years ago, when people heard "Chinese-made road bikes," many felt uneasy.

  • Is the quality okay?
  • Are there issues with durability?
  • Can they really be used in races?

It's true that such an image existed.

However, Chinese carbon and manufacturing technology is currently evolving rapidly.

In fact, many carbon frames from global brands are also manufactured in Asian factories.

What's important is not

  • where they are made,

but rather

  • who designs them,
  • what quality standards they use,
  • and how they are managed.

In this review article, the tester clearly emphasized that

"These are different from unknown, cheap open-mold frames."

Since its founding in 2009, ICAN has continued to develop not just as a low-cost brand, but aiming for "high-performance products that can actually be used for a long time."

TRIAERO Flyee: The Fusion of Classic and Modern Design

The base for this project was the
TRIAERO Flyee.

What was particularly impressive in the review was the evaluation of

"the balance between classic silhouette and modern rationality."

In the current road bike market, there are an increasing number of frames with extremely aerodynamic shapes.

Of course, aerodynamic performance is important.

However, at the same time, there are cases where the balance with

  • comfort,
  • maneuverability,
  • and practicality

is lost.

With the Flyee, instead of pursuing an excessively aggressive aero design, we aimed for

"a road bike that feels good to ride for a long time."

Lightweight Frame Weighing Approximately 900g

The Flyee frame weighs approximately 900g.

And it's not just light.

As mentioned in the review article, it uses a carbon layup that combines

  • Toray T700,
  • T800,
  • and T1000.

This means that instead of just using high-modulus materials, it is meticulously designed for

  • areas requiring stiffness
  • and areas requiring vibration absorption.

As a result, it achieves a high level of

  • lightness,
  • comfort,
  • and stiffness.

Frame Design Thoroughly Focused on "Rationality"

What we were particularly happy about in this review was the evaluation of

"modern and rational."

With the Flyee, we placed great importance not just on lightweight competition, but on "being genuinely easy to use for a long time."

For example,

UDH Compatible

By adopting UDH

it improves future maintainability and compatibility.

The design makes it easy to replace in case of damage.

T47 Bottom Bracket

We adopted the T47 standard, which has been increasingly used by many high-end brands in recent years.

This achieves a high level of

  • stiffness,
  • maintainability,
  • and noise prevention.

27.2mm Round Seatpost

While dedicated aero seatposts are mainstream these days, the Flyee intentionally uses a 27.2mm round seatpost.

In the review, it was highly praised for its

"balance of comfort and versatility."

Indeed, a thin, round seatpost has a moderate amount of flex, which greatly contributes to reducing fatigue during long rides.

Blade-R Cockpit: Quality Unexpected from a Chinese Brand

The bike also featured the Blade-R cockpit, specifically designed for the Flyee.

The review highly praised its

  • aero shape,
  • compact design,
  • and high quality finish.

What was particularly impressive was the mention of its

"stability in high-speed corners."

Despite being a 420mm handlebar, the 400mm top section and flared drop enhance stability on descents.

This design is very well-suited for mountainous routes in Japan.

How Far Have Chinese Components Come?

This review contained very interesting information not only about frames but also about the evolution of Chinese components as a whole.

A Realistic Evaluation of WheelTop EDS TX

The bike was equipped with WheelTop EDS TX.

The review highly praised its

  • fully wireless design,
  • unique operability,
  • and cost performance.

On the other hand, it frankly discussed issues with its

  • setting difficulty,
  • app UI,
  • and finicky adjustments.

From our perspective, such "realistic reviews, including both good points and areas for improvement," are extremely important.

While Chinese brands are evolving rapidly, there are still areas where improvements are needed to catch up with the many years of perfection achieved by Shimano and SRAM.

However, it is also true that

"considering the price, it's very ambitious."

The Perfection of Magene Power Meter Cranks

What was particularly highly praised this time was the Magene TEO P515.

The review even used the expression,

"the most premium-feeling Chinese-made component."

Recent Magene products have significantly improved in terms of

  • stiffness,
  • accuracy,
  • and aesthetic quality,

and many users are actually adopting them.

This suggests that Chinese brands as a whole are transitioning from being "just low-priced" to "truly competing on performance."

Final Weight in the 7.1kg Range - What This Means

The completed bike's weight was as follows:

  • Individual parts measured: approx. 7103g
  • Actual complete bike: approx. 7175g

This result shows that to achieve the same weight with a famous Western brand, it's not uncommon for it to cost 2,000,000 to 2,500,000 yen.

This bike, at approximately 1.2 million Forints, offers extremely high cost performance even when converted to Japanese Yen.

Of course,

  • assembly knowledge,
  • tools,
  • and adjustment skills

are required.

However,

the joy of "building your own ideal bike"

is also a great appeal.

The True Nature of Flyee Revealed in Actual Riding

What was particularly striking at the end of the review was the comment,

"I was initially confused, but the more I rode it, the more I loved it."

This is precisely a characteristic of a racing bike.

The Flyee offers

  • high responsiveness,
  • cornering performance,
  • and a direct feel.

Its stability in high-speed corners, in particular, was highly praised.

On the other hand, it's a bike that also requires

  • core strength,
  • a good position,
  • and getting used to.

In other words, rather than being "a bike anyone can ride easily," it might be closer to

"a bike that grows with the rider."

Summary - In 2026, Chinese Road Bikes Became a "Real Option"

What we were most pleased about through this review was the strong feeling that these bikes were being chosen for their performance, rather than just because they were "cheap because they're made in China."

Of course, top global brands have a long history and established support systems.

However, Chinese brands are now rapidly evolving in terms of

  • design,
  • carbon technology,
  • quality control,
  • and actual riding performance.

And we believe the Flyee is a symbol of that change.

  • Lightness,
  • comfort,
  • modern standards,
  • practical performance,
  • and cost performance.

It's a modern road frame that balances all of these elements well.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the testers who provided us with excellent reviews this time.

ICAN will continue to pursue "performance beyond price" and deliver new options to cyclists worldwide.
