DT46 Wheel Positioning

The ICAN wheel lineup consists of five series:

From bottom to top: CBW, ALPHA, FL, AERO, and DT.

The DT46 is our top-of-the-line series.

The price is 99,100 JPY (including tax).

Given that this is an exceptionally low price for carbon wheels, some of you might be skeptical about the product's quality, but please rest assured.

Its construction reflects our product policy in every detail.

We will now show you why.

DT46 Wheel Rims

We use TORAY's T700 and T800 as our premium carbon materials.

In particular, T800 is a top-grade material that excels in both strength and lightweight properties, and it is used throughout the DT46.

The DT46 weighs 1407g for the pair, which is sufficiently lightweight for aero wheels, though not astonishingly so. This reflects ICAN's design philosophy.

In other words, we believe in releasing products that maintain sufficient durability and strength, even for sports bikes.

Of course, in the context of racing, the situation is different.

The philosophy for racing equipment is to pursue ultimate performance to the extreme, and if it only lasts for one race, that's considered the best! Some race wheels costing 500,000 yen per wheel are built with this concept in mind.

By the way, a distinctive feature of the DT46 rim is its asymmetrical rear rim shape.

Do you know why?

It's related to the fact that the road bike frame itself is not symmetrical.

If you think about it, the drivetrain and shifting components are all on the right side.

Specifically, because the shifting cassette is on the right, the rear hub and spokes are also asymmetrical.

Furthermore, the addition of disc brakes introduces even more complex factors.

To address this, manufacturers employ various innovations to equalize the stiffness on both sides.

This includes spoke lacing patterns, tension, and so on.

As you can probably guess, ICAN engineers addressed this problem by making the rim asymmetrical.

The results were excellent.

The lateral sway during dancing, and the left-right handling characteristics during turns... they are perfectly balanced with no unnatural feel.

DT46 Wheel Hubs

The hub used in the DT46 is the DT Swiss 350S.

DT Swiss is an incredibly prestigious, long-established brand that is said to be indispensable to the bicycle industry.

The models "350," "240," and "180" become more premium and lighter in that order, but ICAN chose the 350 for its reasonable price and high durability.

DT46 Wheel Spokes

I apologize for the repetitive phrasing, but the spoke manufacturer Sapim, used in the DT46, is also a highly established brand. And Sapim's CX-Ray spokes will silence anyone. They are excellent, high-quality products that are both lightweight and rigid.

It may seem minor, but ICAN doesn't cut corners in this area either.

For the spoke lacing, we use a 4-cross 2-tangent pattern, chosen for its lightweight and aerodynamic properties.
