How are the ICAN AERO50 disc brake wheels?
Hello, this is ICAN. Today, I'd like to talk about disc brakes.
As you probably know, the UCI authorized the use of disc brakes in road races starting in 2018. Since then, disc brakes have become increasingly popular in Europe and around the world. Why is that? Have you ever considered the reasons? Or what is the biggest advantage of disc brakes?
Yes, it's their "high braking power."
It's often said that "you can safely tackle long descents even with carbon rims." This is because disc brakes stop by clamping the disc, not the rim. This prevents heat buildup in the rim, allowing anyone to descend with confidence. Furthermore, since the rim doesn't wear out, the lifespan of the wheel body will be significantly extended. You can use them frequently, even in the rain or for commuting. This is an immense advantage that rim brakes cannot achieve, even if they stand on their heads.

Also, with the adoption of thru-axles, the wheels are more firmly secured than with quick releases, which is believed to increase rigidity. However, while disc brakes have advantages, they also have disadvantages. They are heavier than rim brake bikes and also slightly more expensive. But I believe they are worth more than that.
Types of Disc Brakes
There are two types: mechanical disc brakes and hydraulic disc brakes. We will explain them in detail separately.

AERO50 disc brake wheels are made from a combination of Toray's "T700" and "T800" carbon fibers. They are considerably lighter than comparable wheelsets. They are 120g lighter than the "FL Series" wheelsets, which only use Toray's "T700." A weight reduction of 61g for the front wheel and 60g for the rear wheel has been achieved. The total weight of this AERO50 wheelset (front and rear) is only 1430 grams. Front: 645+-10g Rear: 785+-10g. The weight limit is 125kg.

The rim width is 25mm, slightly wider than standard wheelsets. Wider wheels improve rolling resistance and offer superior stability. The AERO series rim height comes in six options. For those seeking wheels for hill climbing, we recommend 35mm, 40mm, and 45mm. For those aiming for aerodynamic benefits and high speeds, we recommend the higher rim heights of 50mm, 55mm, and 86mm.
These AERO50 wheels are compatible with clincher and tubeless tires. They can accommodate a wide range of tire sizes, from 23mm to 45mm. There is a small hole on the rim surface. This hole is for drainage. We made this hole to prevent the rim from expanding. In addition, the spokes are super-light Sapim CX-Ray, and the nipples used are Sapim Secure Lock. These nipples have higher locking resistance than normal nipples, making them less likely to loosen.
