Ultimate Cost Performance and Performance! The Challenge to Build the "Fastest Aero Gravel" with ICAN Graro
Hello everyone.
Every cycling enthusiast dreams of building their "ideal bike" at least once.
This time, I'll be presenting a build report for a custom gravel road bike using the latest frame from ICAN, a Chinese carbon wheel and frame manufacturer that is currently attracting attention from cyclists worldwide:
the ICAN Graro.
"I want a gravel road bike that's fast, beautiful, and affordable."
— The ICAN Graro fulfills such an ambitious wish.
1. Why "Aero Gravel" Now?
In the recent gravel scene, the "aero gravel" genre is rapidly evolving, focusing not just on riding unpaved roads, but on moving faster and more efficiently, including on paved roads.
I myself prefer high-speed training rides of 40-50km over heavily equipped bikepacking.
The Graro, which combines an aero design to reduce air resistance with gravel capability, is perfect for such uses.
2. ICAN Graro: First Impressions and Surprising Customizability
Lightning-Fast Delivery and High-Quality Paint Job
The frame ordered on December 25th arrived on January 9th.
This speed is astonishing, especially considering it included custom paint.
I chose a vibrant orange.
The color offers high visibility, excellent safety, and most importantly, satisfies the desire for ownership. The finish of the clear coat was also beautiful, giving it a quality beyond its price.
A Treasure Trove of Latest Standards
The ICAN Graro is not just a "low-cost frame"; it's a collection of the latest standards.
-
UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) compatible
→ Direct compatibility with the latest SRAM components -
T47 bottom bracket standard
→ High rigidity and excellent maintainability, a modern standard -
UCI certified
→ Quality proven to meet international standards
Including basic paint, the price is $799.
This spec at this price is hard to find from major brands.
3. The Quality of "Craftsmanship" from Assembly
Assembling it in the garage, I noticed improvements in quality control in many places.
Attention to Detail
The BB threads were meticulously processed and greased.
Installation was very smooth, and the internal finish was clean. The internal processing of the frame was also well-done, providing a sense of security.
I noticed a slight play in the headset bearings, but it was easily resolved with sufficient greasing. When assembled correctly, there are no practical issues.
Clean Internal Cable Routing
The brake hoses are internally routed, which looks very sleek.
The routing under the bottom bracket is also organized, with ease of maintenance in mind.
I felt that the design strikes a good balance between aero performance and maintainability.
4. Carefully Selected Parts Assembly
For this build, I chose a configuration that maximizes frame performance.
-
Cockpit: Integrated handlebar (380mm width / 90mm stem)
Moderate flare improves stability on gravel. -
Components:
SRAM Rival AXS 13-speed
Single chainring setup with 42T or 44T front. -
Tires: 38mm
Specialized Pathfinder installed.
The frame can accommodate up to approximately 45mm.
5. The Truth About Cost-Performance: Why Build Your Own Now?
The total cost for this build, including carbon wheels, a power meter, and wireless shifting, was
approximately 12,000 Zloty (about $3,000 / ¥450,000).
A complete bike from a well-known brand with equivalent specs would surely cost
**20,000 Zloty (over ¥750,000)**.
That's a difference of about ¥200,000 to ¥300,000.
Moreover, you get a one-of-a-kind bike with a custom color of your choice.
This level of satisfaction is hard to achieve with off-the-shelf complete bikes.
6. Conclusion: Is the ICAN Graro a "Buy"?
The conclusion is clear:
It is a "very wise choice."
While assembly does require some knowledge and tools, the experience and satisfaction gained are far greater.
-
For gravel riders seeking speed
-
For those who want a unique bike
-
For those who want to get the latest specs while saving costs
The ICAN Graro answers all these needs.
Instead of paying a premium for a brand logo,
invest in the ride and the experience.
Why not embark on new horizons with this "orange flash"?
*Assembly may require specialized knowledge. If you are unsure, it is recommended to consult a professional shop.
