Latest Road Bike A9
Like all ICAN products, the A9 is made of carbon fiber. We won't give carbon fiber another name to disguise the quality of the carbon fiber we sell, and we'll explain exactly what carbon fiber is. In our A9, we use a blend of Toray T700 and T800 carbon fiber. We've linked to Toray's homepage, where you can see the carbon fiber manufacturer's product description.
Now, what did we do with the carbon fiber? The first thing you'll notice about the whole bike is that the cables and hoses are invisible. We decided there was no point in making an aero frameset with cables flapping in the wind. The cables are completely hidden using the new stem and frameset. This reduces air resistance and saves power.
When you think of aero, you tend to think of a stiff bike. The first thing that caught our eye when we first saw the Merida Reacto was its low seatstays, which intrigued us. Tests showed that this design protected the rear wheel from the wind and shortened the wheelbase. Also, shorter stays make the frame stiffer, while longer sets of stays make it more flexible. Short stays also use less carbon fiber, so they are lighter by default. We really like the seat tube connection at the bottom of the rear stays.
Lowering the seatstays and bringing the wheel in changes some of the geometry. By bringing the rear wheel in, you get a faster-feeling bike. Some people preferred bikes with a shorter wheelbase. To alleviate this problem, we decided to work on the geometry of the A9. We ended up with a shape very similar to that of the Scott Foil. It was a bike that was easy to handle and many of our friends enjoyed riding.
Fitting Geometry
Heading along
Fortunately, our headtube doesn't look like the Venge's, but our headtube has been computer modeled and analyzed to ensure it will help you win any sprint. If you want to know what our headtube looks like, we feel it resembles the Willier Cento10's design, especially its truncated tail design. That's why our bikes are so fast.
We rode all the bikes we featured here, took them apart and examined them, and thought about what worked and what didn't. We feel we've achieved our goal of bringing you the best aero bike. We're not done yet, but that's because we've brought you the best aero disc brake bike for your money.
Winning Braking Power
Oh yes, we almost forgot to tell you that the new A9 is designed around flat-mount calipers. You can fit a 160mm disc brake at the front and a 140mm disc brake at the rear. So, no matter how fast you're going on the A9, you can stop quickly when you need to.
