Get your aero for less in 2019!

by Aman Batra 09 Aug 2019 0 Comments

Aero is a new and important development in road cycling. If you check out cycling media, you'll find all sorts of high-end aero bikes. The problem is that many of these products are beyond the reach of most people.

While we all want a $10,000 aero road bike, which is a huge chunk of our income, many people would still want one. Yes, people work hard to buy one, but can you get aero without going bankrupt?

Get Aero From China

If you're active on cycling forums, you've probably seen mentions of Chinese carbon bikes and wheels. Due to a few malicious sellers, the term "made in China" might carry a slightly negative connotation for some. That's why it's wise to choose a reliable brand.

After searching various forums, some people found a brand that fits the bill: our brand, ICAN. ICAN has received many positive reviews from customers and has several overseas warehouses worldwide, allowing for quick delivery.

Chinese Carbon Aero Wheels

Deep-section aero wheels offer significant aerodynamic benefits. You'll notice this immediately when you upgrade to aero wheels. The first time you ride aero wheels, it feels like you've added a rocket booster to your bike. The reason is that a good deep-section rim properly controls airflow. As air passes over the wheel, it must follow the shape of the rim. This creates forward thrust, allowing you to achieve higher speeds with less effort.

Thin, pointed rims cause stalling and drag. Newer aero shapes allow for a larger angle of wind to pass through before reaching this stall point. Wider means faster. The problem is that wide carbon fiber deep-section wheels come with a hefty price tag.

ICAN Aero 55 is one of our flagship aero wheels.

aero55 carbon wheels

The Aero range is the newest in ICAN's wheel lineup. The ICAN Aero 55 is made from a combination of Toray T700 and T800 carbon fiber. Not only does it offer aerodynamic advantages, but it's also strong and quite light. The most appealing aspect is that a 55mm deep wheelset weighing under 1400g costs only 75,000 yen, which is a great deal.

Tubeless-ready compatible, you can also love tubeless. Riding on slightly wider tubeless tires not only increases comfort, but the carbon rim fits well with the wider, rounded tires. This allows the airflow to remain smoother for longer, reducing drag and increasing comfort. It's a fantastic combination.

Chinese Carbon Fiber Aero Frame

Let's say you already have an aero wheelset. When you're looking to buy a new aero road bike, check out ICAN's aero frames. ICAN offers not only wheels but also aero frames and forks. You can get more aerodynamics with wheels and carbon frames at an affordable price.

007 carbon frame

So let's take a look at a frame called the ICAN AERO007. I wanted to crack some James Bond jokes here, but the frameset's website was a bit bland, so I hit that. The frameset costs 57,100 yen and is offered in color schemes I've never seen before. You'll want to paint your frame in your dream color. Aero frames are stiff, but as technology advances, especially with tubeless tires on wheels and slightly lower tire PSI, they've become more comfortable.

A9 road bike

The newly released aero bike from ICAN is exactly like all the super bikes over a million yen that the media has been talking about. Fortunately, the ICAN A9 costs only 357,500 yen.

The A9 looks like a bike three times its price. It features carbon deep-section aero wheels, modern dropped rear stays, and a more integrated design than you might imagine. It also comes with disc brakes.

Dropped stays are something you see on many aero bikes now. The stays guide the air around the rear rim, reducing turbulence on the bike. They also keep the rear of the bike stiff, preventing your power from being lost.

By integrating all cables, manufacturers can fit the bike's frame within the UCI's 8cm rectangular box rule, and hiding cables and hoses saves power. The A9's cables and hoses run straight from the stem through the frame into the carbon fiber handlebars, emerging where needed.

The A9 is a well-thought-out bike, and with this Ultegra spec, it's a bike you won't need to upgrade anytime soon.
