Upgrade your road bike to 12-speed!
Do you want to upgrade your road bike with a new SRAM 12-speed groupset? Or do you want to use a super lightweight AXS cassette? If you want to use an AXS cassette, you'll need an XDR freehub body.
What is XDR?
XDR stands for XDroad and has been a successful development from SRAM's XD driver for mountain bikes. The underlying idea behind XDR or XD is to allow SRAM to create a wider gear range by making smaller cogs than those currently equipped on standard freehub bodies.
The biggest problem was mounting a 10t cog on an HG-type freehub. The freehub body was larger than the 10t cog, making it very difficult to fit a 10t size on them. Note that if you wanted to install an 11-speed, you had to change the wheel because the freehub body would be longer.
The second problem was to lighten the XDR driver. Using an XDR driver allows you to install a 12-speed cassette on a freehub with the same width as an 11-speed cassette. This means you only need to change one component, and you don't need to change the wheels. Don't worry, the XDR driver is based on the 11-speed HG freehub, so it's 1.8mm longer than the XD driver.
The XDR cassette threads onto the driver, and the 10t sprocket fits right behind the driver body. This method helps prolong bearing life. And the HG freehub is the same length as the driver body.
Which wheels are compatible with your XDR driver?
We have designed many wheels to be compatible with XDR drivers. For the Aero series, our motto is lightness and speed. These XDR drivers are designed to fit Novatec and our own brand of hubs. If you don't know which one you bought, please email us and we will deal with it immediately.
The hub codes for Novatec road bikes that are compatible with our drivers are AS511SB/FS522SB. The hub codes for disc wheels are D411SB/D412SB, D791SB/D792SB, and for fat bike hubs, D201SB/S202SB.
DT Swiss also makes their own XDR drivers for their 240s and 350s hub sets. So if you've purchased those wheel sets, you won't have to waste them. If you need help or want to know more, please email us. We at ICAN will do our best for our customers.
As you can see in this video, it's very easy to switch your wheels to a new SRAM AXS groupset. It's also less expensive than replacing the entire wheel. As you know, SRAM has released a short video on how easy it is to replace the hub with an XDR driver. Please watch the video for a few minutes.
Now it's time for you to switch to 12-speed!
